Sir,
The responsibility of the police has increased manifold with unrest and violence spreading over to industrial, social, religious, and educational spheres. They are often asked to bring peace to the affected areas. People turn violent over flimsy issues and destroy public and private property. The police are required to tackle sensitive and explosive situations on the spur of the moment for which no time for preparation is available. They are to act promptly and also have to be careful not to hurt anyone's sentiment.
Police action will always be subjected to criticism as different groups of people will look at it from different angles. Despite that, the police must uphold law and order and act promptly. However, constant vigilance is necessary to prevent excessive use of their power.
