Sir,
Traveling by road from Kolkata to Asansol on National Highway 2 has become a painful experience. This is a double-lane blacktopped road fit for heavy and fast-moving traffic. But a large number of speed breakers, at places about a foot high, present a great hazard to motorists. This is particularly so between Burdwan and Durgapur.
Most of these humps seem to be unauthorized. It appears that every roadside "Dhaba", betel shop and hamlet has speed breakers put up across the road, either as a sequel to an accident or for fear of one. These speed breakers also act as forced stoppages for buses that otherwise would not stop there. The speed breakers are dangerous for fast-moving vehicles, especially at night.
Through your esteemed column, I would invite the attention of the authorities to this matter. The speed breakers should be removed for the safety of the passengers.
