Sir,

This has a reference to the report "500 phones dead at Howrah 67 exchange" in your daily of 27th March. As a subscriber, I feel this is the worst-managed exchange in the country. Telephones remain dead for years according to the area manager's own confession. Complaints, even to the highest level, yield no result.

Surely, digging is not the cause of the trouble. In my area, there has been no major digging work for over a year, but my telephone has worked for not more than a month during the past year.

The authority finds scapegoats in CMDA, CESC, Howrah Municipality, and other bodies. The Telephone authority is very prompt to pass the buck to these bodies without any hesitation. Surely people cannot suffer very long.
