PRECIS

A hundred years ago there were very few hospitals and they were not such as they are now. Doctors were few, for, all the more skillful doctors preferred to attend wealthy patients. Nurses were not trained but were usually poor women who could find nothing better to do, for no woman of good birth would ever think of becoming a nurse. Buildings and surroundings also were not good and tidy. But things have changed altogether nowadays. Now, every town of any size has a hospital. The modern hospital is always a large and carefully planned building where nothing is allowed to get dirty and where all work is done in a quiet and orderly fashion. The doctors and nurses are all thoroughly trained men and women whose one purpose is to see that the patients in their care get well as soon as possible and they have devoted their loves to fighting diseases of all kinds. Women of some educational and social standing do not hesitate to become nurses nowadays.

Hospitals of the past and of the present

  Answer:-

Hospitals of the past and of the present

Very few hospitals were there in the past. Most of the doctors were incompetent and untrained, and poor women became nurses. Buildings and environments were unhealthy. Nowadays every town has a well-planned and modern hospital where silence and discipline are maintained. Devoted, competent doctors and literate trained nurses look after the patients carefully.
